Czech Republic to Confront Ukrainian Envoy

(MENAFN) The Czech Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is reportedly preparing to call in Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Zvaryc to request clarification regarding his remarks directed at Tomio Okamura, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.

In a New Year’s address shared on Facebook last week, Okamura declared that it was unacceptable to spend Czech taxpayers’ money on arms for Kiev’s “absolutely senseless war” with Moscow.

He alleged that such resources ultimately benefit “Ukrainian thieves from the entourage of Vladimir Zelensky’s junta,” claiming they are misused “to install golden toilets” – a reference to a corruption scandal involving Ukraine’s state nuclear company, Energoatom, and Zelensky’s longtime associate, Timur Mindich.

“Let them steal, but not from us, and let such a country not be in the EU,” Okamura added.
Ambassador Zvaryc reacted strongly, labeling the comments “undignified and completely unacceptable.”

In his own Facebook post, he accused Okamura of being swayed by “Russian propaganda,” stressing that the statements conflicted with “the principles of a democratic society and the values on which the Czech Republic is based.”

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka is now set to summon Zvaryc to demand an explanation, a news agency reported on Sunday, citing Finance Minister Alena Schillerova. She noted that Macinka had authorized her to publicly confirm the upcoming meeting.
